Am I eligible for GLP-1 treatment in Ireland?
Question 1 of 3

Am I likely to qualify for GLP-1 treatment?
Which medicine are you most interested in?
Three questions, about two minutes, free. “Not sure yet” is fine. At the end, you add your email to see your result. Nothing is sent to or saved by GLP-1.ie until then.
This check uses adult criteria and is for people aged 18 or over.
Answer three quick questions, then add your first name and email to see your BMI band against the criteria most Irish providers use and, from a BMI of 27, three independent provider routes to compare, with an illustrative projection when your answers fall within the licensed criteria. For adults aged 18 or over.
BMI quick reference
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². Providers commonly consider treatment from a BMI of 30, or 27 with a weight-related condition (the EU licence names prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea and cardiovascular disease). A prescriber still reviews your full history and makes the decision.
| BMI | Standard category |
|---|---|
| 18.5–24.9 | Healthy weight |
| 25.0–29.9 | Overweight |
| 30.0–34.9 | Obesity class I |
| 35.0+ | Obesity class II or III |
BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis or prescription decision.
Quiz questions
Is this quiz a medical assessment?
No. It is a free, illustrative screening tool based on the general BMI criteria most Irish providers publish. A regulated prescriber makes the actual eligibility and treatment decision after reviewing your full medical history.
Can I use this quiz if I am under 18?
No. It uses adult BMI criteria, and treatment for anyone under 18 uses different, age-specific criteria. If you are under 18, please talk to your GP.
What BMI do I need for Mounjaro or Wegovy in Ireland?
Most Irish providers use a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition, as their general starting criteria. The EU licence for Wegovy and Mounjaro names prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea and cardiovascular disease.
Does having type 2 diabetes change the assessment?
Yes. Diabetes care and weight management involve different prescribing considerations; this BMI quiz cannot assess blood glucose control or choose diabetes treatment. Tell the prescriber and your usual diabetes team about your diagnosis and all medicines you take. The HSE notes that some combinations with medicines that lower blood glucose can increase the risk of low blood glucose. Ask who will coordinate your care and any monitoring or medicine changes. Do not change diabetes treatment based on a quiz result.
HSE: obesity medicines and other health conditionsWhat should I discuss with my GP if I do not meet the published criteria?
A result outside this quiz's starting criteria does not mean there is no useful care to discuss. Ask your GP to review how your weight, symptoms, existing conditions and medicines affect your health, and what support suits your circumstances. Topics can include eating, activity, sleep, mental health and referral to a dietitian or other service. Ask about local eligibility, waiting times and costs. The quiz does not diagnose obesity or decide access to support.
HSE: understanding obesity and treatment optionsIs the weight-loss chart a guarantee?
No. It shows average results from Mounjaro (SURMOUNT-1) and Wegovy (STEP) clinical trials, scaled to the weight you enter. Individual results vary with dose, diet, activity and personal response, and are never guaranteed.
What happens to my details after I submit them?
We store them to show your result and email you about it. Your result appears as soon as the request is saved, with a provider shortlist when your BMI is 27 or above (the lowest BMI the EU licence covers), and we send one email confirming we received it. If that email fails, the page tells you the request was still saved, so you do not need to submit it again. We only share your details with a provider if you ask us to introduce you. GLP-1.ie is independent. No provider pays GLP-1.ie today. Any future paid placement will be clearly labelled and will never change the published order. No payment can change your BMI result.
