In the 72-week SURMOUNT-5 study, tirzepatide produced greater average weight loss than semaglutide. It compared tirzepatide 10/15 mg with semaglutide 1.7/2.4 mg injections, according to the tolerated dose. That result does not compare Wegovy 7.2 mg or tablets, and it does not predict an individual result. EMA Mounjaro product information, section 5.1: SURMOUNT-5.
The right choice is not simply the strongest medication. It depends on your budget, medical history, side-effect tolerance, current stock, and what a prescribing doctor thinks is appropriate.

Current EMA Wegovy information allows a prescriber to consider 7.2 mg after at least four weeks at 2.4 mg for adults whose BMI was at least 30 when treatment began. This is not a reason to change your own dose or a statement that the dose is available from an Irish pharmacy. See the full criteria in EMA Wegovy product information, section 4.2.
The brand is the product name; the ingredient is the active substance; the indication describes its authorised use and patient group. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and has EU indications for type 2 diabetes and adult weight management, with different criteria. Wegovy contains semaglutide and has a weight-management indication. Ozempic and Rybelsus also contain semaglutide but are authorised for type 2 diabetes, rather than weight management. A shared ingredient does not make products, strengths or instructions interchangeable.

The reason for a gap, previous side effects and the exact product matter. Wegovy's authorised information says a lower starting dose should be considered when more doses have been missed. Mounjaro has its own missed-dose instructions; do not transfer rules from one medicine to another. Tell the prescribing team your last dose date, dose and formulation, why treatment stopped, symptoms and other medicines. Ask them to confirm the restart or switch plan and follow-up. A leaflet's single missed-dose rule is not a universal restart schedule after a longer interruption.
Do not overlap medicines, improvise a dose conversion or restart at an old dose without checking the clinical plan. Your prescriber should set the timing, dose and side-effect plan.

Compare the prescribed strength, supply period and all required fees before choosing a route.
Discuss any switch with your prescriber first. They need the exact medicine, formulation, dose, last dose date, treatment history and side effects to set the next plan. Do not overlap medicines or use an online dose-conversion rule.
Do not assume that the old dose is still the right restart dose. A single missed dose and a longer interruption are different situations. Use the matching leaflet and contact your prescribing team before restarting after a gap; they should assess the interruption and confirm the plan.
The online providers listed on GLP-1.ie offer their own medical consultation, so a GP referral is usually not required. It is still sensible to keep your GP informed about any new medication.
