What survodutide is and who makes it
Survodutide is a once-weekly injection that acts on both glucagon and GLP-1 receptors. Boehringer Ingelheim develops it under a licence from the Danish company Zealand Pharma, and is responsible for its development and any sale worldwide.

Trial stage and published results
Survodutide is in phase 3. The SYNCHRONIZE-1 trial followed 725 adults with obesity or overweight, without type 2 diabetes, for 76 weeks on weekly survodutide at 3.6 mg or 6.0 mg, or placebo. On 28 April 2026 the companies reported average weight loss of up to 16.6% against 3.2% on placebo, counting people while they stayed on treatment. The full results were published in The New England Journal of Medicine in 2026. These are trial averages, not a prediction for any one person.
The companies said the trial met its main goals and that it is investigational and not approved anywhere.

EU and Irish regulatory status
Survodutide is not authorised by any regulator. The EMA's list of new medicines under evaluation, with data extracted on 5 October 2026, has no entry for survodutide, and we found no filing announced by Boehringer Ingelheim in the EU, the US or the UK. Whether one has been made since is UNKNOWN.
When could it be available in Ireland?
A new weight-loss medicine like this reaches Irish prescribers through the European Medicines Agency. The EMA says its committee's scientific assessment takes up to 210 active days, not counting the pauses while the company answers questions, and the European Commission then decides within 67 days of the committee's opinion. A company launch and pharmacy stock in Ireland come after that.
Our estimate, not a company date: with phase 3 results now published but no EU application on the EMA's October 2026 list, availability through an Irish prescriber before 2028 looks unlikely. The real date is UNKNOWN.

What about websites selling it now?
No authorised version of survodutide exists, so a product sold online under this name is not an approved medicine and may contain anything. We do not list these sellers or their prices. Read the HPRA's warning about buying medicines online.
What people in Ireland can use now
Authorised GLP-1 medicines for weight management, such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, are prescription-only and are prescribed after a clinical assessment. Our guide to getting a GLP-1 prescription in Ireland explains the routes, and the eligibility check shows which ones may fit your BMI and health. Neither offers access to survodutide.
